Join one of our two-day Core Coach training where we’ll explore different approaches to understand how and what to coach to ensure we support and enable learning for the people we’re coaching. The course will support you in understanding how to plan and adapt sessions for your learners.
Overview
The Core Coach Training is open to all paddlers regardless your discipline or previous coaching experience. This two- day course will provide you with structure for your coaching ensuring your learners get the most from time on the water with you. This is a practical based course designed to help you learn coaching theories and practice through hands on application, developing you as a coach.
Who is this aimed at?
This course is for anyone looking to progress their coaching, from people taking their first steps on the coaching pathway, to those working towards a British Canoeing Awarding Body qualification in their chosen discipline, to experienced coaches who want to refine and strengthen their skills.
Objectives
The aim of this course is to give you a solid understanding of how to coach effectively exploring different coaching approaches, how people learn, and how to adapt your coaching to meet the needs of your participants. You’ll develop the skills to plan and structure engaging sessions, and gain confidence in understanding the who, what, why and how of coaching in your chosen discipline.
We’ll also support you in developing your personal coaching development plan, helping you apply your learning in practice and continue progressing as a coach after the course.
Itinerary
Day One - we’ll move between the classroom and the water to connect coaching theory with practical application. We’ll explore current coaching approaches, then head onto the water to put these ideas into practice. The day will finish with a session‑planning activity, giving you the chance to apply what you’ve learned and prepare for delivering a coached session on Day two.
Day Two - will be spent predominantly on the water, where you’ll deliver a coached session and put your learning into practice. We’ll explore real‑time decision‑making and how to create an effective, supportive learning environment for your participants.
We’ll finish the day by giving you a clear, personalised plan to help you continue progressing towards the Coach Award in your chosen discipline or coach development.
Experience Required
For the Core Coach practical training, participants should be comfortable in or on your craft and be able to paddle independently on sheltered water.
